Biography and Background:
Lindsay Faria is a seasoned marketing professional with nearly 15 years of experience managing marketing programs for growing, cutting-edge technology companies. She currently leads the Partner Marketing efforts at Barracuda MSP, where her team is dedicated to providing tools, resources, and content that enables Barracuda MSP customers to be more successful, and ultimately grow their businesses. Additionally, she is responsible for promoting adoption of the company's growing solution portfolio among Partners, empowering them to streamline their operations and provide more comprehensive security and data protection to their customers. With a strong background in lead generation, communications, content creation, and large-scale corporate events, Faria added advocate marketing to her repertoire when she spearheaded and executed the launch of Barracuda MSP Insiders (formerly Intronis Insiders), an exclusive community for Barracuda MSP channel partners. While managing the Insiders community, Lindsay and her team engage directly with Partners regularly to seek feedback, encourage peer-to-peer sharing of best practices and strengthen relationships with Partners. Faria is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration, Marketing and Management.
How have you personally helped advance your company's channel business over the past year?
The team which I oversee is responsible for partner communications and engagement, sales and marketing enablement, and driving partner portfolio adoption. Together with our account management team, we've helped countless partners identify the right solutions for themselves and their customers. We have also helped support their go-to-market efforts, whether it be in the form of leveraging our library of marketing materials or in helping them to successfully execute promotional campaigns and events. In addition, drawing on input from our senior leadership team, this year managed the launch of a new initiative at Barracuda MSP designed to assist VARs, break-fix, and other service providers in successfully adding managed services to their offerings. We call the program Ready, Set Manage! I oversaw the rollout of this program from branding and content planning, to recruitment campaigns and day-to-day management of the platform. We initiated this because we know there is demand for this type of education and support, and our extensive experience in the world of managed services makes us uniquely positioned to help. We're getting encouraging feedback, and it's been a rewarding project to work on. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for these prospective and fledgling MSPs.
What are your goals for your company's channel business over the next year?
One of my top goals is to find new and meaningful ways to enhance the Partner experience and add new value for them. We are invested in enabling our partners to improve their businesses, whether that means helping them add customers, streamline their operations, or fill gaps in their service offerings. This year, I'll be focusing more of my attention on proactively capturing and acting on valuable partner feedback. Ultimately, this will help Barracuda MSP continue to deliver on our commitment partner success and to offering our partners the best possible experience.
What honors, awards, or commendations have you won over the past year?
I am honored to have been recognized in 2017 by CRN as part of the Women of the Channel List, and also designated one of the 2017 "Up and Comers" on the list.
Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
Tina Fey. She's leveraged her sharp wit and grit, alike, to infiltrate a 'boys club' and become the first female head writer on SNL. And, she did it largely by doing excellent work, letting her talent speak for itself, and standing her ground. She didn't set out to try to 'beat the men'; she set out to do her best, and she has. She is a vocal advocate for causes she cares about, including encouraging women and girls to pursue their dreams. I think both of those things are really important.
What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Be kind to yourself. We are taught to be kind to others from a young age, and at age 16, I had this covered. But, I'd remind my younger self (and any other young person!) not to waste time and energy on things like self-doubt, regret, and the act of people-pleasing. Instead, do what you love, learn from your mistakes, set your own boundaries, and treat yourself with the same respect and compassion you do everyone else. Kindness to yourself doesn't come at the expense of anyone else, and it makes everyone much happier and healthier.
If you could master any new job-related skill, what would it be and why?
If there was one area I could quickly improve upon, I'd want to expand my knowledge when it comes to the detailed workings of the tools used and systems and environments protected by managed service providers. There are times when I find myself unable to answer some of the more technical questions from partners, and I'd love to be able to give them a quicker answer. Fortunately, in the meanwhile, I have plenty of smart colleagues around me that more than compensate for my shortcomings on that front!
What's the best book you read this past year and why did you like it?
The Nightingale. It's historical fiction that shares the story of two French sisters during the German occupation of France in World War II. What I enjoyed most was the depiction of their endurance and heroism, although demonstrated in very different ways throughout their unique experiences. The characters were fictional, though one was inspired by an actual revolutionary (a Belgian woman named Andree de Jongh). Their stories offered a fresh take on a "war story", this time from the perspective of brave women who faced their own battles as they fought for their families and for who they were as people.
