Biography and Background:
Muffin Mott, Symantec's Head of Global Channel Marketing, has 23 years of channel sales, marketing, and operations experience in the security and software industry. At Symantec, Muffin plays a key role in driving global partner demand generation programs, partner communication strategy, and partner readiness programs. Muffin joined Symantec via its acquisition of Blue Coat Systems in June 2016, where she spent three years as Senior Director of Global Marketing and Channel Programs. In that time, she launched a global renewal incumbency program and a new partner portal experience, as well as delivered a global digital partner campaign platform that helped partners drive new business growth. Prior to joining the security industry, Muffin spent 19 years driving channel sales growth through the evolution of the software industry at The Douglas Stewart Co., Corel, and Adobe (Macromedia). Muffin's extensive background in building channel sales and marketing programs plays a key role in her ability to drive successful global channel marketing programs at Symantec.

How have you personally helped advance your company's channel business over the past year?
Within the last year, we launched our new Secure One program that supports the combined security solutions from Symantec and Blue Coat. With the launch of the program we also seamlessly launched the newly designed integrated Partner Portal experience that supports our global partners. The team also developed and launched all-new digital marketing campaigns and a redesign of our syndication offerings to help our partners drive demand for the combined security solutions. Toward the middle of the year, we launched two new global marketing campaign programs and sales enablement incentives to help increase our focus on the mid-market.

What are your goals for your company's channel business over the next year?
We will focus on delivering strong marketing programs and tools to support the many partner routes to market from SMB to enterprise. We will continue to focus on increasing partner adoption of digital marketing campaigns, syndication, and social assets and launch new marketing tools making it easier for partners to drive demand. Driving targeted communications to our partners and continuing to improve their portal experience will also be a focus. Our transition to the cloud will be top of mind with channel marketing programs and communications to engage and recruit cloud partners. Lastly, we will remain committed to operational excellence.

What honors, awards, or commendations have you won over the past year?

Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
I still greatly admire Mary Jackson (Engineer), Katherine Johnson (Physicist/Mathematician), and Dorothy Vaughn (Mathematician), and their commitment to education, strength to overcome diversity and impact on our country's space advancement. I also admire Eleanor Roosevelt. As the very first active first lady and the role, she played in transforming human rights. Her words alone are so inspiring: "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams," "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent," and lastly, "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
• Don't take everything so personally. • Ask for help - it doesn't make you weak. • You're never going to get anything you don't at least ask for. • Lastly, wear sunscreen.

If you could master any new job-related skill, what would it be and why?
One skill that I have always admired and would like to further develop is that of public communication, specifically in regard to building an online social presence. In addition, I'd love to continue my education around inbound marketing and SEO.

What's the best book you read this past year and why did you like it?
I would say that my favorite book of 2017 was Saints for All Occasions by J. Courtney Sullivan. I was initially attracted to the book because of my connection to my Irish heritage. The author did a great job of making it easy for the reader to imagine and sympathize with the two sisters as they leave Ireland for the U.S. The sisters take two different paths, but are always connected by a secret.
