How have you personally helped advance your company's channel business over the past year?
As President of a new company, within a well-established family of companies, I have utilized my channel relationships to build new partner alliances for Copper River Technologies, and the OEM community. The majority of our business is in the federal market, and as such, we look forward to our first successful "busy season," at the end of the government fiscal year (September).
What are your goals for your company's channel business over the next year?
Recently, Copper River Technologies submitted an application to the Small Business Administration requesting acceptance into their 8(a) program. We hope to use the customer and partner relationships we have, along with (hopefully) acceptance into the 8(a) program, to more easily enable the procurement process for our federal customers, and grow business for our OEM partners.
What honors, awards or commendations have you won over the past year?
In December of 2016, I was given the honor to serve as President of Copper River's newest company, Copper River Technologies.
Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
I have a friend that every woman should have the pleasure of knowing. Her name is Christine, and she is amazing. Christine has a successful career, happy marriage, beautiful children, and finds the time to give back to her community in a big way. She has a heart of gold, and an incredible ability to make every one around her feel like they are the most important person in the world. There is a saying that says something like "you won't remember what people said, but how they make you feel." Christine leaves a mark that can be felt forever.
What advice would you give to young women who want to begin careers in technology?
We do not have nearly enough women in the technology industry. I would highly encourage young women to consider a career in IT. We need more diversity of thought and experience in our field, which can only be accomplished by fostering an inclusive culture. My advice is simple. Work hard. Don't assume the world owes you anything. Listen more than you talk. Learn. Respect the strengths of your coworkers, and learn from them. Know you are getting paid to do a job, not socialize. Never be distracting with the words you say, or the clothes you wear. Enjoy every minute.
If you could be any movie character for one day in real life, who would you be and why?
My all time favorite movie is the Sound of Music! I would love to be Maria (Julie Andrews) singing through the beautiful mountains, and raising 7 beautiful children! I was exceedingly fortunate to visit Salzburg Austria once, and participated in the four-hour Sound of Music tour. It was truly an experience I'll never forget!
If you could travel to a city you've never been to before, all expenses paid, where would you go and why?
There are so many places on my "bucket list," that I hope to enjoy! It is hard to pick the one that stands out the most. I have never been to Greece, and would love to spend time in Athens. There is so much rich history, and based on the pictures, beauty. It would be amazing to visit the Parthenon in person, to truly appreciate the stable architecture.
