How have you personally helped advance your company's channel business over the past year?
Over the past nine months, I have been focused on delivering the best experience for our combined customers and partner moving forward. I have been so lucky to be part of the amazing team that has integrated Blue Coat's channel business, operations and marketing strategy with Symantec. This has enabled the combined partner community to play an even more integral role in our go-to-market strategy. The Secure One program is designed to give our partners more opportunity for greater growth, profitability and lastly, keep a focus on making it easier for our partners to do business with Symantec.
What are your goals for your company's channel business over the next year?
This will be an exciting year for Symantec and our partner community as we enter the year as a single company and cyber security powerhouse. Symantec's goal for our channel business is to drive value for our distributors, channel partners and our customers. We will achieve this by continuing to deliver the most comprehensive and innovative cyber security platform, offering new opportunities for profitability through our partner programs, making it more streamlined to do business with us, and continuing to move toward the cloud, together with our partners. It will be an historic year for Symantec and our partner community.
What honors, awards or commendations have you won over the past year?
I am happy to receive a position with Symantec as the Head of Global Channel Marketing.
Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
I would have to say I completely admire Mary Jackson (engineer), Katherine Johnson (physicist/mathematician) and Dorothy Vaughan (mathematician). All three African American women were instrumental in our country's success to landing on the moon and getting the astronauts home safely. Their commitment to education, strength to overcome discrimination and their sheer will is what made the computers of NASA. The movie "Hidden Figures", which came out last year, was a fantastic portrayal of their incredible contributions, including what they fought for and overcame.
What advice would you give to young women who want to begin careers in technology?
My advice to young women entering the technology industry is to find your passion and the work that drives you. That passion is what will keep you coming back when the going gets tough, and will make the wins even sweeter. Once that passion is identified, I suggest finding a mentor who allows you to take chances, encourages questions and, most importantly, gives you constructive, honest feedback. One thing about technology is that change will happen. It's important that you find your balance and maintain your integrity. Don't forget who you are.
If you could be any movie character for one day in real life, who would you be and why?
It's a tie between Princess Leia and Hermione Granger. Both Leia and Hermione are leaders in any room they enter. They are both strong characters with determined will and focus on fighting for justice. Most importantly, they show empathy and integrity every step of the way.
If you could travel to a city you've never been to before, all expenses paid, where would you go and why?
I would travel to Thimphu, Bhutan. They say it's the happiest place in the world, where you can trek among the Himalayas, smiling at the sheer beauty of the temples and landscapes around you. In fact, they reject GDP, but measure gross national happiness (GNH). They say that when driving from the airport you will see signs that read "Life is a journey! Complete it!" and "Let nature be your guide." I hear that right at the edge of a perilous curve, a sign simply reads: "Inconvenience regretted." Those messages and intentions alone make me want to go.
