Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
Most of the women I truly admire are part of my family since it's difficult to esteem someone you don't really know on a personal level. However, one woman who has greatly influenced my life through her book 'Lean In' is Sheryl Sandberg. Her book encouraged me to take charge of my career in a world still run by men. In her book she points out that most women keep themselves from advancing because they don't have the self-confidence that men do. After reading her book I felt more empowered to ask for things I felt I earned and deserved.
What advice would you give to young women who want to begin careers in technology?
In general, women shouldn't be afraid to pursue a career in a field that has been predominately dominated by men. Hard work and dedication will always be respected and rewarded. Become an expert in your field and don't be afraid of success. The number of opportunities in technology fields are growing significantly and will continue to grow as our world relies more and more on the internet. The key to success is doing something you love and if technology happens to be your love then don't let being a woman stand in your way.
If you could be any movie character for one day in real life, who would you be and why?
Phoenix from X-Men. In addition to telekinesis and telepathy she can manipulate timelines, travel through space without assistance and resurrect and control life energy in other people. If I had these powers for a day I would use her ability to travel through space to see as many parts of the world as possible. Plus, with the ability to manipulate timelines, I could extend the one day limit as long as I wanted.
If you could travel to a city you've never been to before, all expenses paid, where would you go and why?
One of the top items on my bucket list is a ski vacation to Zermatt, Switzerland. Zermatt is a quaint village nestled at the foot of the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps and is one of the world's top ski resorts. The village has narrow streets full of restaurants, pubs and shops where only foot traffic is allowed. Skiing is among the best in the world and the car-free city makes for a tranquil environment at night. It seems like a great vacation with a combination of exercise, adventure, culture and scenery.
