Biography and Background:
Caralyn Stern, Sophos Senior Director of Americas Marketing, has more than 20 years of technology sales and marketing experience. Caralyn joined Sophos more than three years ago to lead field and channel marketing for the Americas and helped to create and launch the Sophos 5-star partner program. Caralyn concentrates on generating awareness for Sophos' award-winning network and security solutions and supports Sophos' channel-first business model by providing partners with world-class marketing tools and support and a steady stream of demand and enablement programs. Prior to Sophos, Caralyn held senior leadership and marketing positions at endpoint security vendor Carbon Black and encryption start-up Ziptr.

How have you personally helped advance your company's channel business over the past year?
Over the past year, Caralyn has led her team to provide Sophos partners with: • Lead-gen programs, MDF, marketing support and concierge services to generate leads, create pipeline and deliver record revenue growth for Sophos partners • Educational certification program, offering options that fit their business needs, including virtual and live classroom options, sales team training and co-sell call blitz days and motivating incentives and rewards • Innovative ways to ensure partners have access to the tools and information they need to drive results and earn more of their customers' security budget, including our mobile app, competitive intelligence team, partner briefings and roadshows • Leverage brand awareness and visibility, via Sophos thought leadership pieces in major media including NBC Nightly News, the Today Show and key security media publications, speaking engagements at industry events and seminars, and educational webcast series

What are your goals for your company's channel business over the next year?
My goal is to help Sophos partners distinguish themselves as cyber security experts. For example, while everyone is talking about the rising threat of ransomware, with Sophos Intercept X, our partners are uniquely positioned to prevent it. I want to make sure Sophos partners can harness this opportunity - when what their customers need and what their solutions deliver perfectly align. With customized new co-branded email campaigns, a weekly anti-ransomware webcast series and online demos, our goal is to make it easier than ever for Sophos partners to educate their customers and prospects on how to navigate today's threat landscape.

What honors, awards or commendations have you won over the past year?
The Channel Company's Women of the Channel List, 2016. Caralyn was listed as a Woman of the Channel for leading the innovative Break a Hacker's Heart roadshow to support Sophos' Synchronized Security technology. The roadshow took place in every region and let partners and customers learn firsthand about how threats operate today.

Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
This is a hard question as I am in awe of so many women - intelligent, hard-working and graceful women in my personal life or the public eye. For example, I admire Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani woman shot by the Taliban for working for education for all children. To see her focus, grace, passion and unapologetic determination on the world stage, in the face of such violence and at such a young age, is truly an inspiration.

What advice would you give to young women who want to begin careers in technology?
I always say find a company with a good culture, be real and get some sleep. You also have to be ready to work hard. Concentrate on finding a team and company where you can be your authentic self so you can spend your time and energy learning more about the technology, your role and how you can prove yourself invaluable to the company.

If you could be any movie character for one day in real life, who would you be and why?
Three-way tie between • Steel Magnolia's Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine) because she says exactly what she thinks and she has more money than God. • Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) because she was smart, funny and in charge, and ended up married to Paul Simon. • Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) because she is practically perfect in every way and had everything she needed in that one carry-on sized bag.

If you could travel to a city you've never been to before, all expenses paid, where would you go and why?
As a New Englander, my answer to this question will vary with the seasons. Right now, I'd pick somewhere like Santorini for weather, water and food, plus a chance to explore the ruins, cities and beautiful beaches.
