Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
It's hard to name just one! We are fortunate at Splunk to have strong women on our executive team, including Splunk's Chief Revenue Officer, Chief of our Security Practice and our Chief People Officer - these are all strong and inspiring women! Throughout the last couple years, I have also been particularly inspired by Sheryl Sandberg. Not only for all her professional successes, but her impact on the world with the LeanIn initiative and in the graceful and poignant way she has handled losing her husband, a truly awful tragedy to endure.
What advice would you give to young women who want to begin careers in technology?
First I want to emphasize how many viable career tracks there for young women - it's much more than just jobs in IT that require technical skills. We also need a broad range of other skill sets in sales, marketing, programs and more. There are plenty of opportunities for young women with business-oriented mindsets that can be exciting and rewarding. Once in a role in the technology industry, my advice to young women is be confident, use your voice and speak up. If you want more responsibility, a new role or assignment - ask for it!
If you could be any movie character for one day in real life, who would you be and why?
No, thanks! No movie character really speaks to me enough to want to live her life for a day.
If you could travel to a city you've never been to before, all expenses paid, where would you go and why?
I've been to 52 countries and aiming for 100, so I'm always planning my future travel destinations based on countries I haven't yet visited. One destination I hope to visit soon is Cape Town, South Africa. I find the history of South Africa heart breaking, and in turn inspiring, and can't wait to explore it.
