Biography and Background:
Johnna is a seasoned channel careerist with over 20 years of cross-functional channel experience. As Managing Director of Global Distribution and Breadth, Johnna is responsible for driving the strategy to grow Citrix's partner-led sales through its global distribution channel and non-named partner community. Johnna joined Citrix in June of 2016 after serving as Vice President of Global Sales Operations & Global Channels at Aerohive Networks. Prior to Aerohive, she held channel leadership positions at several leading technology companies including Riverbed, EMC, NetApp and HP/Compaq. Johnna is an avid college football fan, not suprising for a University of Nebraska alum. She also favors the warm climate, which she enjoyed while getting her MBA at Arizona State University. An animal lover - Johnna is an active volunteer with the Golden Gate Laborador Retriever Rescue.
How have you personally helped advance your company's channel business over the past year?
I joined Citrix at an exciting time, when the company had just committed to re-invest and renew it's already strong commitment to its channel as one of five pillars of the company's growth plan. Part of this investment was targeted specifically at recognizing the importance of distribution, and the role that channel plays in helping the company scale and grow beyond its historical customer community. I was tapped to take on the Company's first Global Distribution leadership position, with a focus on building a worldwide distribution strategy and program that would be the platform upon which our partner-led channel sales motion would be built. Citrix has very strong regional partnerships with most of the major distributors around globe - but had not previously looked at how to leverage those partnerships globally. With this new vantagepoint, the biggest global distributors in the world are now working with Citrix to build out a universal enablement, marketing and sales engine that will support our partners in their efforts to sell Citrix.
What are your goals for your company's channel business over the next year?
Work together with our distributor partners to deliver a sales acceleration platform that both expands and enhances our partners' ability and opportunity to sell Citrix into the midmarket - with an enhanced partner offering that is delivered however customers want to buy - on premise, as a service through the Citrix cloud, or as a managed service from our partners.
What honors, awards or commendations have you won over the past year?
I've been honored to be named as a Power Woman of the Channel as well as a Channel Chief by The Channel Company nearly every year since 2012. These awards were for various accomplishments throughout my career at some amazing companies.
Outside of your family, please name a woman you admire and why:
Eleanor Roosevelt was a powerful woman in her own right. She was outspoken and pushed for what she believed in, even if it wasn't popular. She was a champion of human rights. While today she is widely respected for her contributions on civil rights (having helped establish the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights), she was highly controversial as a first lady during her time. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" - a quote all people - women or men - can live by even today.
What advice would you give to young women who want to begin careers in technology?
Be bold - because its not going to be easy. Equip yourself - so you can stand on your own with confidence and competence. Be human. At the end of the day - we're all people, and most of us are trying to do the right thing. Fail fast. Push yourself - as that is how you will really accomplish greatness. And don't be afraid to fail. Just recognize it quickly, learn from it, and move on.
If you could be any movie character for one day in real life, who would you be and why?
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars). Phenomenal teacher, leader and mentor. Fighter for good vs evil. Wise and a master of his trade. The ultimate in calm, cool and collected under pressure, and master of "The Force". Who wouldn't want the ability to convince people of their ideas simply by waiving their hand? "These aren't the [partners] you're looking for." Oh to be Ben for a day ....the things I would accomplish.
If you could travel to a city you've never been to before, all expenses paid, where would you go and why?
Chang Mai, Thailland. It is the home to Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary and rescue center for Asian elephants. Elephants are endangered species, and Asian elephants in specific are on the brink of extinction with estimates of less than 50,000 of them left in the world. The senseless slaughter of these wonderful creatures is something that must be stopped. This park has received numerous awards from institutions including the Smithsonian and has been featured in many international publications including National Geographic magazine as well as feature documentaries from respected media companies including Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet, and others.
